Someone didn’t like this Bondi mural about refugees, so they painted over it | ABC News
When Sydney artist Luke Cornish painted a mural at Bondi Beach, he never expected to spark a debate about free speech. The controversial painting of Border Force officers with the phrase :Not Welcome to Bondi” was his commentary on the treatment of asylum seekers. Some locals were offended and wanted it gone. Council wanted it to stay, but in the end a vandal had the final say.

In a supposedly democratic country, perhaps someone should have asked the community before they painted “Welcome to Bondi”?

Bondi is known for its swimming. A nice picture of a family enjoying the beach would be more appropriate.

Don’t be so arrogant, an artist isn’t the only person with an opinion. An artist’s does not own the concept of art, the community said no, the community made their own art.
The community voted for the council. The council voted yes. Therefore, the community voted yes.

Good on the vandal who defaced it! Leave your Political views out of public spaces. Asylum Seekers are illegal immigrants with some of them having criminal records & groping nurses who treat them. Asylum Seekers are not treated harshly go look at some of the images where they are having fun on beaches,eating Ice Cream. The mistreatment claim is mostly propaganda.
It’s not very good for tourists to see that sort of thing. That’s why they had it taken down.
If anything the mural should have a beach or underwater ocean theme. Not a political message.
Religious and political point of view should be private. Be respectful and decent don’t use public place for your nonsense opinions.
